NOBC Team Photo, 1986
This photo was taken in 1985 or 1986 just before one of the Tuesday/Thursday training rides on Lakeshore Drive in New Orleans. Although many members are missing from this picture (the club had around 100 members at that time), most of the "regulars" are represented. The riders seated on the ground are Brett Reagan (left), who went on to join the USCF National Team, and Glenn Gulotta, who operated Gus Betat & Son, the club's sponsor for many years. |
Season Opener Road Race, 1980 or 81
Robin Robert rounds the pylon on River Road at the "Carlisle sign" in the traditional "Season Opener" Road Race around 1980. This course along River Road started at the Scarsdale / Belle Chasse Ferry Landing and went south along River Road. The Carlisle sign was right at the 12.5 mile mark. The course was a popular time trial course, and was the site of many State Championships in the 70's and early 80's until increasing field sizes caused the Championships to be moved to River Road in Baton Rouge. The route remains a good choice for training rides. Out-and-back from the ferry landing to Pointe a la Hache is close to 50 miles. |
